[IMAGE] PRINCIPIA CYBERNETICA WEB (C) _________________________________________________________________ Author: Editors , Date: Sep 13, 1994 (modified); Jul 8, 1993 (created) WELCOME TO THE PRINCIPIA CYBERNETICA WEB This is the WWW server of the Principia Cybernetica Project (PCP). The Project's aim is the computer-supported collaborative development of an evolutionary-systemic philosophy. Put more simply, PCP tries to tackle age-old philosophical questions with the help of the most recent cybernetic theories and technologies. If you are a new reader, or just want to understand the basics of what PCP does, check out the introduction. New!: we are running an experiment with a hypertext that adapts itself to its users. Please excuse us for the possibly slow reaction of the server, caused by this additional load . Check also the announcement of "Einstein meets Magritte", a conference on strongly PCP-related themes Main subjects PCP is dedicated to the development of an evolutionary world-view which we call MetaSystem Transition Theory. This node links to the major theoretical results of PCP. The practical methods and tools used by PCP are detailed in Project Organization. The Overview provides a formal summary of the project as a whole. PCP has gathered a lot of background material on the domain of Cybernetics and Systems Theory, including a Glossary of terms. We also maintain a detailed list of Internet resources about related subjects, including complex systems, man-machine interaction, cognition, philosophy, evolution, networking, and knowledge integration. Navigation aids There are over 700 "nodes" (hyperdocuments), lots of text files and many different kinds of information available in Principia Cybernetica Web. The following guides may help you to quickly find your way around: [IMAGE] * Map: the picture above is a clickable map of the "top" nodes of the PCP hierarchy. * Recent changes: "what's new" on this server * Searchable index: keyword search of all document titles. * Table of contents: hierarchical outline (long) providing a "standard ordering" through the material. * "Hit parade": list of nodes ordered according to popularity, and other usage statistics for the server. About the Web The material in this web is continuously being added to, further polished, and improved. We apologize for the as yet unfinished documents. Nodes followed by the mention "[empty]" don't contain any text yet, but provide a menu of linked nodes. Some of the most important results have not yet been converted to hypertext, but may be found in one of the papers in our FTP-archive. Suggestions about content and presentation of the information are highly appreciated. If you have any technical problems, questions or suggestions on our Web, please contact the "Webmaster", Francis Heylighen (fheyligh@vnet3.vub.ac.be). Comments about the content of a node can be addressed to its author(s). You can now directly annotate each node separately, or add general comments to the User Annotations. If you have difficulties connecting to the server, you might try to reach the Principia Cybernetica Web through a different network address: the normal http server at pespmc1.vub.ac.be or 134.184.35.101 (IP number), or a "mirror" FTP-server serving WWW documents at is1.vub.ac.be. If you plan to regularly consult this server, you might keep a copy of this home page on your own computer. These servers are situated at the Free University of Brussels. _________________________________________________________________ | Table of Contents | Search | Annotate | Help |
